2026/2027 Workshops

There are 5 workshops scheduled for the 2026/ 2027 guild year.  Anyone is welcome to sign up for the workshops, however members get a $10 discounted rate.  Each workshop is individually priced below in CAD$

Some workshops require some prep or special supplies – sign up early so you can be ready!

Where permitted by the teacher, some workshops may be recorded and made available on a limited basis to paid participants for a maximum of 2 weeks from the workshop date

Learn FPP skills – the basics and beyond – from Jeannie!

Conquer the confusion of working in reverse to achieve precise, sharp points and intricate designs as she guides you expertly.

February 2027

In this 3h online workshop we’ll explore improv curves by piecing an improv curved log cabin. Have you always wanted to sew an improvised curve, but haven’t found the courage yet? Have you tried it before, but your fabric just wouldn’t lay flat? In this course students will learn my techniques and will afterwards approach those curves with confidence. We also address the question: How do I choose colors and fabrics for an impressive quilt? How do I choose a color scheme that is pleasing to the eye? What is value of colors and how does it help me make a convincing choice of color and fabric. We will aim to make a smaller project or the beginning of a larger piece. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

March 2027

In this 3h online workshop, students will learn how to sew inset circles and oval shapes with their sewing machine! All shapes are sewn in and not appliquéd, everything is sewn by machine, no hand sewing. Lisa Hofmann-Maurer will show you different ways to use her technique by overlapping shapes or setting a circular shape into another. Students will learn how to inset any round shapes and are able to use this skill in their future quilt designs. With the knowledge from this class, you will be able to sew almost any shape in a quilt design without fear.

Every month has a flower to symbolize the birth date, commonly known as a birth flower. Inspired by Kathy’s award-winning quilt “For Such a Time as This”, each birth flower has been incorporated into a delightful wreath design in a block-of-the-month series of patterns. Needle-turn, fusible and Apliquick methods of turned-edge appliqué will be presented in class, as we learn the secrets of smooth curves, sharp points, and perfect circles. Both hand and machine stitches are covered. Make a special block to commemorate your birth month or complete the whole set to make a stunning quilt or a perpetual calendar.

Cutwork is a needlework technique where portions of fabric are cut out and the resulting holes are reinforced with embroidery. Learn how to create this heirloom needlework by machine in a fraction of the time using a satin stitch. There are five project options in this class:

  • lacy snowflake
  • glittery snowflake
  • snowflake quilt block
  • stained glass snowflake
  • floral (coming soon! Sample will be available over the summer 2026)
