Lecture: From Idea to Quilt – Finding inspiration in everyday things (Hybrid)
In this trunk show, I’ll take you along on a quilting journey from my first quilt to finding the modern quilt movement and the evolution of my own quilt designs over the years. Along the way, we take a look behind the scenes of my quilt patterns and see where I get my ideas and how a design goes from inspiration to published pattern
This lecture will be recorded and available to members on a non-downloadable basis for 5 days.
Workshop: Improv for Planners with Monika Henry (Online)
Thursday October 24 (9:30 – 4)
Are you curious about the world of improv quilts but hesitant to dive in without a clear roadmap? Do you thrive on planning and find the idea of uncertainty daunting? If so, join us for an exciting workshop that introduces a gentle approach to improv quilting, designed to stretch your creative boundaries while providing structure and confidence.
In this workshop, we’ll embark on a unique quilting adventure that combines the freedom of improvisation with the security of preplanned layouts and quilt blocks. It’s like following a “choose your own adventure” path in quilting, where each quilt becomes a one-of-a-kind reflection of the maker’s personal style and creativity.
The goal of this workshop is to become comfortable with not knowing exactly how something is going to turn out, but it’s like dipping your toes into the water, not jumping in at the deep end. We’re improvising some things, and planning some, so we don’t get the overwhelm of too many options. We’ll look at some colour theory, and get a feel for colour placement and learn to trust our instincts when it comes to colours. And we play with blocks and block placement to finish the quilt.
The pattern is included in the workshop price, and recording can be made for members who sign up but are unable to attend some/all of the workshop.
