September Meeting

Our first meeting of the new guild year, and what a fun evening it was- and wonderful to see all those familiar faces, with lots of new ones too!

Elisabeth Bacque gave a talk on Pioneer Women and Paper Patchwork. She gave a brief history of a group of early pioneer women, and gave a slide show of the quilts she had made from paper, each one unique to the woman she was describing. And what quilts!- they were made from antique maps, seed envelops, birch bark and more. Unfortunately they did not photograph well, but I did take a few to give an example of her inspiring work.

Elisabeth also gave a reading list for those interested in reading more about these adventurous, hardworking women who helped settle this country. You will also find a list of books on early quiltmaking, patterns, and history.

Our next quilt show is in November 2017, and Jane Cramer is heading the planning group. Stay tuned for details, and start working on your quilts! The quilt below, hand made by Jan McGoey, is one of two raffle quilts for the show.
